Back to school time is not only for kids. Adults may register soon for the new Enrichment Academy in The Villages. The fee-based community education courses start in October and are open to both Villages residents and non-residents age 30 and older.
The Learn & Grow Expo, a kickoff event for the academy, is scheduled from 8-11am Thursday, Aug. 3, at Lake Sumter Landing Market Square. In the event of inclement weather, the expo will be held at Lake Miona Recreation Center, 1526 Buena Vista Blvd.
At the expo, visitors can meet instructors, ask questions, pick up a course catalog, and find out about registration, according to a Recreation Department announcement. Early registration for Villages residents with valid resident IDs will be available from 8:30-11am at the expo registration tent.
After the expo, registration begins Aug. 7 for Villages residents and Aug. 21 for non-residents. Walk-in registration will be available for residents from 8:30am-4pm Monday-Friday at Lake Miona, La Hacienda, Eisenhower, and Rohan recreation centers.
The Enrichment Academy is intended to fill the void left by the closing in 2016 of The Villages Lifelong Learning College. The academy is being organized by the Recreation Department, and classes will be conducted at recreation centers. Core courses will include subjects such as writing, language, history, art, dance, science, and technology.
