Villages hosts Outdoor and Sports Expo, plans variety of nature tours

Nature lovers have a lot to look forward to in The Villages.

The annual Outdoor and Sports Expo is scheduled from 9am-3pm Saturday and 10am-3pm Sunday at La Hacienda and Rohan regional recreation centers, the district Recreation Department announced.

La Hacienda, 1200 Avenida Central, will host more than 30 clubs and vendors. Guests can talk to club leaders to learn about their interests or talk to vendors who will share their expertise. The Rohan center, 850 Kristine Way, will be the site of multiple sports demonstrations.

Golf carts and carpooling are encouraged to accommodate all visitors to the centers. For more information, call 352.753.1716 or visit districtgov.org.

In addition, beginning in March, the Recreation Department will present guided fishing, kayaking, and nature tours on Lake Sumter, according to the department’s web page:

Guided kayaking: Rent a kayak and enjoy a guided tour full of tranquility, exercise, and wildlife observation on the lake. Participate as a single rider, bring a buddy to share a tandem kayak, or bring a group of up to eight people for up to a two-hour session.

Nature pontoon tour: Grab your binoculars and bring your camera, for a pontoon boat cruise on the lake. Guides will share their knowledge of the environment and ecosystem while you get the chance to admire the wildlife and beautiful scenery from the comfort of the boat. This two-hour tour will accommodate up to four guests.

Guided fishing: Catch-and-release excursions on Lake Sumter cater to all experience levels, from amateur angler to seasoned sportsman. Step onto a 21-foot tracker pontoon boat that can accommodate up to four anglers during a two-hour trip. Because of the popularity of this activity, a lottery system will be used to secure fishing times. For complete information and the lottery application, visit districtgov.org.
