The event will take place Saturday, March 7, at the field, 703 N. Buena Vista Blvd. Registration begins at 8am with ceremonies starting at 9am, and the walk at 9:30am. Or register at alzheimersfamily.org/villageswalk/. Adult registrations cost $20, juniors (ages 6-12) $10 and children under age 6 are admitted free. Anyone can participate as a walker, sponsor or volunteer.
Last year, the Alzheimer’s Family Organization had almost 1,000 participants in this event, a news release states. The entry fee will benefit the AFO, whose services reach eight West-Central Florida counties, including Sumter County. The goal of the walk is to increase awareness of Alzheimer’s disease in the community and assist AFO in raising much-needed funds to continue support and education programs for families and caregivers.
Teams consisting of a minimum of 10 walkers are encouraged to sign up. New this year, teams can compete for the Most Spirit Award with ideas such as funky socks, hats, custom T-shirts and more. Have you been to the walk before? Show us your vintage shirts. Teams also will compete for first, second and third-place largest teams.
