Villages church starts virtual COVID-19 support group

Father John Kelly of St. George Episcopal Church in The Village and his wife, Tish, are COVID-19 survivors, and now the pair is starting a virtual support group for people who have lost loved ones from coronavirus or have recovered themselves.

The support group is open to the public.

“To support the community in response to the ever changing world of COVID-19, Tish and I have felt called to offer a support group via Zoom to help navigate life during these difficult times,” Father John says in a news release. “It is during times like these when extra support and information is needed.”

He says the group will run for a six-week period, starting Tuesday, Sept. 22nd at 11a.m. and run each Tuesday after that at the same time for five more times. The format will include a presentation each week, followed by discussion. Topics such as “Having COVID-19,” “Residual effects of COVID-19,” “Safeguards” and other issues will be discussed.

To register, interested participants are encouraged to send an email with your name(s) to stgeorge1250@gmail.com. The support group is not limited to members of St. George.

“If you know of folks struggling with this disease or who lost someone to the disease, please tell them about this group,” says the rector.

A confirmation email with the link to the Zoom meeting will be sent. Registration deadline is Sunday, Sept. 20. Participants will be encouraged to download the Zoom app on their computer or mobile device before the session.
