The Villages knows a good thing when it sees it. District administrators always make the extra effort to educate residents about local government. One of The Villages’ more popular programs also is one of its longest-running events: Government Day, which attracts a wide array of speakers and exhibits as well as large crowds.
The 24th annual Government Day is scheduled from 10am-1pm Saturday, Nov. 2, at Eisenhower Recreation Center, 3560 Buena Vista Blvd., according to a district administration newsletter. The event is open to residents of all communities.
Government Day typically features more than 70 governmental bodies and agencies, including the state of Florida and Lake, Sumter, and Marion counties. Visitors can learn all about their local, state, and federal governments, and have the opportunity to gather information and get questions answered by experts.
The event regularly includes representatives from The Villages Community Development District supervisory boards; The Villages Public Safety; Lake and Sumter county sheriff’s offices, county commissions, and county offices; the University of South Florida Health in The Villages; Seniors vs. Crime; the Southwest Florida Water Management District; and a politician or two.
Outside in the parking lot, visitors can expect to peruse equipment displays from fire departments, law enforcement, emergency management, and other agencies.
