hands-typing-laptop-computerThe Lake County Tax Collector’s Office is promoting the use of online services at laketax.com as a precaution amid concerns about the coronavirus.

The tax collector’s office serves 25,000 customers combined at its locations each month, making it the highest customer-facing business operation in Lake County. Since customers and staff members are in close contact, the facilities do not allow for the proper social distancing recommended to help slow the spread of the virus, according to a news release.

More than 30 percent of typical transactions can be completed online, says David W. Jordan, Lake County tax collector.

“Out of an abundance of caution to our staff and community, we encourage the utilization of our vast array of online services, which can significantly reduce the number of customers visiting our offices,” he says.

Customers who have coronavirus symptoms as described by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention or compromised health conditions that make them more susceptible are urged to avoid coming into the tax collector offices. Staff members also are being urged to practice enhanced safety and precautionary measures, such as refraining from handshaking and personal contact in order to reduce the risk of contracting or spreading viruses.

The office pledges to continue to provide essential services to Lake County while following the lead of the CDC and Lake County Emergency Management. Customers can follow Twitter @Lakecotax or Facebook @Lakecotax for updates. For questions regarding online services, call 352.343.9602.
