Summertime boating takes on a little different meaning this weekend in Clermont.

The Lake County Rowing Association will host the second annual Clermont Cardboard Classic on Saturday, Aug. 3, at Victory Pointe and South Lake Trail in downtown Clermont, according to a news release.

This cardboard boat race is great family fun. Gather your friends, design an awesome cardboard watercraft, build it, and hit the water for a regatta like no other. Races will be staged for all ages, and prizes will be awarded. Everyone will be able to vote for their favorite teams in categories such as best design, most likely to sink, best theme, and others.

The event is free for spectators. A wide range of vendors and food trucks and a beer garden will add to the fun for both kids and adults. Proceeds go to the Lake County Youth Rowing program, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
