Sarah Coursey | 39

Occupation: Police Lieutenant/Road Patrol Commander, Tavares Police Department.

Family: significant other, Jason Merill; daughters, Kaelyn, 7, Parker, 16, and Sami, 13; dogs Rolex and Mittens; and a sugar glider named Clyde.

Hobbies: Boating, golf, snowboarding, surfing and going to the gym.

Pet peeves: Excuses and no solutions to a problem.

Guilty pleasure: Friday night margaritas.

Favorite thing about my job: The fact that I was born and raised in the City of Tavares makes working here that much more special to me. This is home and these people and the area itself have a special place in my heart, so being involved in keeping it a safe place to raise a family are important to me.

Leader I most admire: Robert Greenleaf, founder of the servant leadership, which encourages diversity of thought, creating a culture of trust, having an unselfish mindset, and helping others achieve their leadership potential.

Greatest career accomplishment: This is two-fold for me, as I was able to obtain my master’s degree while working full time and also being the first female to promote through the ranks into administration at the Tavares Police Department.

Philosophy of life: “We are only here for a short time so make the most of it, love those around you, make a positive impact in their lives, don’t take yourself too seriously, and forgive often.”

Desired superpower: To be able to rewind time and see loved ones who are no longer with us.

Advice I’d give my younger self: Our parents are right, listen to them, they know what they are talking about.
