Safe Haven baby and firefighter reunite

The Florida Safe Haven Law allows anyone to leave a baby, up to 7 days old, with an employee at any hospital, emergency medical services station, or fire station in the state, no questions asked. On July 1, 2006, Dan Miller was on duty as supervisor at Fire Station 12, 16240 CR 474, Clermont, when he received a call that a baby girl would be dropped off at the station. “I was in awe. I was excited and I was nervous,” Dan recalls. The baby, Colleen, was taken to South Lake Hospital and later adopted by a loving family. Dan and Colleen recently reunited when his station named its new Class A pumper “Colleen” in her honor.
