The city of Clermont is celebrating Florida’s Arbor Day in a big way: they’re giving away 1,000 seedlings to be planted in honor of this earthy event.
“We’re glad to provide these trees and we hope that the public will take advantage of this great giveaway,” City Manager Darren Gray said. “The city of Clermont continues to be a role model for environmental consciousness and to seek ways to enhance our green community.”
The big day is Saturday, Jan. 19, beginning at 8am and continuing until all the trees are gone. Those interested in seedlings can go to Lake Hiawatha Preserve’s East Pavilion, 420 Lake Minneola Shores/County Road 561. The City of Clermont’s Public Works Department is providing the seedlings with the Parks and Recreation Department assisting.
These annual giveaways of seedlings is one of the many reasons Clermont was recognized nationally as a Tree City USA for 19 years. Clermont also earned a Growth Award from the Arbor Day Foundation because of its commitment to growing more public trees.
