The latest COVID-19 data for Lake County reported by the Florida Department of Health on July 20 shows 3,3119 residents have tested positive for COVID-19 with 169 hospitalizations and 35 deaths. The median age of residents affected by the virus is 40.
In Sumter County, the median age is 62 of those affected. Sumter has 820 positive cases with 108 hospitalizations and 21 deaths.
Lake County officials announced the following testing locations for the week of July 20:
- Adult Medicine of Lake County:
Testing is $20 each for COVID-19 swab, antibody and rapid tests for residents and non-residents. No symptoms are required, and no appointment necessary. Lake Square Mall, 10401-015 US Highway 441 South, Leesburg. COVID-19, antibody and rapid test, from 8 a.m. t0 2 p.m. Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays only. Nasal swab and rapid tests will be done on all test days, antibodies (blood test) will be done on Thursdays only. The turnaround time for the rapid test is approximately 30 minutes.
- Florida Department of Health in Lake County:Testing sites open at 9 a.m. and continue on a first-come, first served basis for residents and non-residents, while test kits are available at South Lake High School, 15600 Silver Eagle Rd, Groveland, and Lake Sumter State College, 9501 U.S. Highway 441, Leesburg. Testing is free, no criteria is required, and children may also be tested. Due to the demand for testing, it is recommended that residents call the Florida Department of Health COVID-19 Hotline at 352-742-4830, prior to arriving at either location. The hotline is open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
- State Pop-up Testing Site:
The state supported walk-up site is offering free COVID-19 testing to individuals 18 and older. No symptoms are required, no appointment necessary. The sites are Publix Super Market at Tavares Crossroads (parking lot), 2042 State Road 19, Tavares, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday; and at Home Depot (parking lot), 10825 U.S. Highway 441, Leesburg, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
4. Private care providers may also offer testing.
Lake County’s online testing site locator tool allows users to find COVID-19 testing sites in Lake County. Users can enter their address and quickly identify where the closest testing site is, the type of tests offered, the address of the location and the cost of the test.
A user can select a point on the map or enter an address in the search bar and the testing site locator will create a radius around the given location based on the number of miles selected by the user.
