Nominations open for Lake County Women’s Hall of Fame

Lake County commissioners are inviting the public to nominate outstanding women to be considered for induction this year into the Lake County Women’s Hall of Fame.

The hall recognizes and honors outstanding accomplishments by women in Lake County.

The deadline for nominations is Friday, Sept. 15. Nominees must have made significant contributions to the improvement of life for citizens of Lake County in the field of art, agriculture, athletics, business, community service, environment, government, health care, humanities, philanthropy, science, or education.

To be eligible, applicants must have been born in or have adopted Lake County as their home for at least 10 years. Nominees may be living or deceased.

Completed nomination forms will be submitted to the Women’s Hall of Fame Selection Committee for review. The committee will choose one or two nominees for induction. The inductees typically are recognized at a County Commission board meeting or the State of the County Address. They receive a plaque and their photograph is displayed alongside photos of past inductees in the Commission Chambers at the county administration building.

The first class, inducted in 1995, included Catherine C. Hanson, Florence M. Hunter, and Margaret Cason Ward.

Nomination forms are available online at lakecountyfl.gov/whof or at the Board of County Commissioners Office, Room 316 at the Lake County Administration Building, 315 W. Main St., Tavares.
