Mount Dora Will Celebrate Purple Heart Day

bald-eagle-and-American-flagA ceremony to honor Purple Heart Day will be held Wednesday, Aug. 7, in front of City Hall at the Purple Heart Memorial Statue in Mount Dora at 10am. Mayor Nick Girone will read the proclamation instituted on June 18, proclaiming Mount Dora a Purple Heart City.

Following a few words from the mayor, the Mount Dora Police honor guard will raise the Purple Heart flag presented to the town at the June countil meeting. Representatives from American Legion Post 35 will also speak during the event.

Purple Heart Day was desginated to commemorate the creation of the oldest American military decoration. The Purple Heart is awarded for military merit and honors the men and women who were wounded and in the Military Order of the Purple Heart. The public is invited to the event and encouraged to honor the men and women who have served and sacrificed so much for their country.
