Christmas came early for three single mothers and their children, thanks to the Mount Dora Police Department.

With generous donations from residents, as well as Walmart and Wise Chiropractic, the department recently gave a special gift to the families. The kids were surprised at the department with wrapped gifts, treats, and visits from Santa Claus, Police Chief John O’Grady, and officers from the department, a news release states.

Officer Ivy Severance had learned about the three moms Nov. 29 during the Mount Dora Police Tip-A-Cop program at Chili’s Restaurant. The manager approached her and spoke about the three women who work there while holding other jobs to help support their families. One of the servers takes care of an elderly parent along with a child.

The officer made it her mission to make Christmas special for these mothers and their children, and she was able to secure toys and bikes for six kids. Wise Chiropractic even held a special toy drive for these three families.
