McLin Burnsed elects Phillip Smith as managing partner

Phillip S. Smith has been elected managing partner for law firm McLin Burnsed, which has offices in Leesburg and The Villages.

Smith has been with McLin Burnsed since 1994 and a partner since 1998. He has focused on some of the most challenging areas of legal practice, including complex civil, commercial and power industry litigation, tackling an array of challenges from large class action suits commercial contract disputes to utility company litigation, according to a press release. In addition to such high-power experience, he is also a certified circuit civil mediator, enabling him to reach fair and reasonable meeting points for clients who wish to avoid the courtroom.

Smith’s experience made him a logical and easy choice for the firm’s board of directors when tasked with electing a qualified attorney to the managing partner position.

As managing partner, he will oversee the ongoing missions of the firm, including captaining expansion and exploration into new territories and specializations and creating strategies for long-term planning and growth. His previous occupation as a certified public accountant gives him additional acumen in directing McLin Burnsed’s day-to-day operations, including supervising general policies, business strategies and attorney development, monitoring the results of implemented plans, and consulting with partners to achieve the most rewarding results for the firm and its clients now and going forward.

“I’m committed to taking the firm in a dynamic and aggressive trajectory that will support our clients through every legal action and service, no matter how ambitious or complex,” Smith said in the press release. “The McLin Burnsed name must evoke strength, reliability and total satisfaction to our many valued clients.”

Smith is a member of the Florida, American and Lake County Bar Associations, and of the Executive Committee of the Florida Law Network. He assumed his post as managing partner in February of 2019.
