The city of Leesburg has landed another major fishing tournament: the 2020 Fishers of Men Stren Team Series National Championship.

Along with the Greater Orlando Sports Commission and Visit Lake, the city will co-host the event for the second time March 7-14, 2020, at Venetian Gardens on Florida’s Harris Chain of Lakes, a news release states. The championship is expected to attract 160 two-person teams over eight days, including five practice days and three competition days.

The Fishers of Men National Tournament Trail comprises 34 Team Series divisions, 21 Legacy Series divisions, 10 Ultimate Bass Challenge Series divisions, and eight Weeknight Series divisions from across the eastern half of the country, combining for more than 300 tournament events annually.

“We are very excited about bringing our biggest and most prestigious event of the season back to the Harris Chain of Lakes,” Bobby Eads Sr., vice president of the Tournament Trail, says in the release. “The last time we were in Leesburg with this event, not only was the fishing outstanding, but the hospitality shown to our competitors made this community one of our favorites.”

Lake County officials are excited as well to welcome back the national championship.

“The abundant Harris Chain of Lakes, in particular, has increasingly become a destination for major fishing tournaments such as this one, which is projected to bring more than 300 anglers to our great county,” Tim Sullivan, county commissioner and chairman of the Lake County Tourist Development Council, says in the release. “We wish them a successful event and hope they take some time to enjoy all that Lake County has to offer, both on and off our beautiful lakes.”

Lake County is one of the top destinations for bass fishing in the United States and hosts some of the top national bass fishing events, including the Big Bass Tour, FLW Tour, Major League Fishing, and Bassmaster.

“Fishing in Lake County is a must for every bass angler’s bucket list,” says FLW Tour champion and pro angler Tim Frederick.

The 2020 event will mark the 22nd edition of the national championship for the Fishers of Men National Tournament Trail, one of the largest sport fishing event organizations in the country.  Anglers competing in March 2020 will have an opportunity to earn a share of the purse valued around $140,000 in cash and prizes.

“The Harris Chain of Lakes is one of the most prolific big bass fisheries in Florida,” says Jason Siegel, CEO of the Greater Orlando Sports Commission. “With over 76,000 acres of water and beautiful spring weather, we are confident the anglers will have a positive experience in Lake County.”

The Greater Orlando Sports Commission is a private, nonprofit organization that has hosted or co-hosted more than 1,300 events with a total economic impact exceeding $1.4 billion. For more information, visit greaterorlandosports.com.
