Leesburg man serving aboard USS Milius during warfare exercises

Sonar Technician (Surface) 2nd Class Dontreal Brown, from Leesburg, is participating in an anti-submarine warfare exercise aboard the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Milius (DDG 69 hull classification) during Annual Exercise (ANNUALEX) 19 in the Philippine Sea, according to a news release. USS Milius is participating in ANNUALEX 19, a bilateral exercise which further develops coordination and interoperability of the premier alliance between the U.S. Navy and Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force.


The USS Milius, sailing in the East China Sea, is conducting operations in the Indo-Pacific region while assigned to Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 15, the Navy’s largest forward-deployed DESRON and the U.S. 7th Fleet’s principal surface force.
