Government officials and employees are dedicated to serving the public, and that’s the theme for the 2018 Government Day in The Villages: Working to serve you.
The 23rd annual edition of Government Day is scheduled from 10am-1pm Saturday, Nov. 3, at Eisenhower Recreation Center, 3560 Buena Vista Blvd. The event is open to residents of all communities.
Visitors can learn all about their local, state, and federal governments, and have the opportunity to gather information and get questions answered by experts. Representatives from more than 70 governmental bodies and agencies, including the state of Florida and Lake, Sumter, and Marion counties, are expected to be on hand, according to a news release.
The event also typically includes representatives from The Villages Community Development Districts and CDD supervisory boards; The Villages Public Safety; Lake and Sumter county sheriff’s offices, county commissions, and county offices; the University of South Florida Health in The Villages; Seniors vs. Crime; the Southwest Florida Water Management District; and a politician or two.
Outside in the parking lot, visitors typically can peruse equipment displays from fire departments, law enforcement, emergency management, and the Coast Guard.
This year, shuttle transportation will be available at Fenney Recreation Center, 3200 Fenney Way, and Savannah Center, 1545 Buena Vista Blvd. The roundtrip ride is free, but tickets are required and they will be available starting Thursday, Oct. 18, on a first-come, first-serve basis at all Villages box offices.
The shuttle departure schedule: Savannah, 9:30, 10, 10:30, and 11am; Fenney, 10, 10:45, and 11:30am.
The last bus will depart Eisenhower Recreation Center at 1:10pm. Anyone not in line for the return shuttles at that time will not have transportation back to their vehicles. Please plan your time at the event accordingly.
