Lake County nurse to lead new hospice program

VITAS Healthcare, the nation’s leading provider of end-of-life care, has named Jillian Madsen, RN, general manager of its newest location, in Lake and Sumter counties, which is slated to begin accepting hospice-appropriate patients on Jan. 2, 2018. A Lake County resident for more than a decade, Jillian will oversee operations, develop and expand the program, and represent VITAS in the community.

“Jillian has been a valuable member of our Maitland area staff for more than 20 years, supporting our mission to bring the highest quality end-of-life care with compassion and clinical and management expertise,” Nick Westfall, CEO of VITAS Healthcare, said in a press release.

“Healthcare professionals throughout Florida depend on VITAS as a resource for terminally ill patients and their families when curative care is no longer assuring quality of life. We look forward to offering our services to the Lake-Sumter community,” added Patty Husted, EVP for VITAS in Florida and Georgia.

Jillian joined VITAS in 1996 as a home care nurse. Following advancement to patient care administrator and senior patient care administrator, she was promoted to associate general manager of VITAS in Maitland in 2015, and later was promoted to general manager. Previously, she worked for Columbia Park Medical Center in Orlando for eight years, where she served as an infection and quality control coordinator, critical care nurse, and cardiac recovery room nurse. She earned an associate’s degree in nursing from Palm Beach College in Lake Worth. Jillian is also a certified hospice and palliative care administrator.

“I am honored to be part of this community and look forward to improving access to hospice and palliative care services for Lake and Sumter residents,” Jillian said in the press release. “We are building a team of healthcare and support professionals who will put their heart and soul into improving the quality of life for patients and families.”
