It’s a bird! It’s a seaplane!

Calling all airheads! The Seaplane-a-Palooza is March 30-31, Saturday, 10am-7:30pm and Sunday, 9am-1:30pm. This is an exciting FREE event at the Tavares Seaplane Base in the downtown area with the new Ruby Brick Road.

The Seaplane Base is on scene Lake Dora within Wooton Park. Activities are planned to keep you busy both days. To those who might be flying in to Leesburg Airport, there will be shuttle service to the event all day. A great start to the Sun ‘n Fun annual event in Orlando.

Pilots can register at the information tent from 11am-2pm, and spectators can arrive early to see the seaplanes landing on the water. Enjoy exhibits and a Plane Beauty Pageant. It might be interesting just to see where they put the crown!

For pilots, there’s a Flying Scavenger Hunt with GPS coordinates for locating items. Pilots can join the gathering from 6-7:30pm for the Jones Brothers Country Boil. Tickets are $25, and you must RSVP with Jones Brothers at 35.2.508.1800. If you’d like to camp in Tavares before going to Sun ‘n Fun, camping is available for pilots.

On Sunday, there will be a Pilot’s Pancake Breakfast sponsored by EAA Chapter 534 at the Picnic Pavilion in Wooton Park. Exhibitors and the Plane Beauty Pageant continue, and the information tent is open all day. The briefing for pilots participating in the flying contests will be at the Picnic Pavilion at 11am.

The public is invited to watch the pilots in the flying contests with multiple heats, depending on the number of entrants. All the action begins at 11:30am. You may want to bring you own picnic to make the day more enjoyable. There will be an awards ceremony following the contest.
