The clanking of glasses and the clasping of shaking hands are like the wind chime sounds of political change. It’s no secret what getting out there and rubbing a few elbows can do, not only for politicians, but also for those hoping to be heard.
As a resident and/or business owner, being involved in your community leadership and knowing the faces of candidates for local office is vitally important. This is why Leadership Lake has been holding the Leadership Lake County Political Hob Nob for more than two decades. Each election they provide the public the opportunity to meet candidates in a friendly social setting; inviting over 60 candidates from State, District, and County elections to join.
At the event, candidates, representatives, and residents mingle and enjoy wonderful discussions. Throughout the evening each ticket holder will have a chance to cast their vote in a straw poll conducted on a voting machine loaned by the supervisor of elections. At the end of the night, results are revealed. The mock process is a fun activity for participants and provides some helpful insights to campaigners.
Oakwood Smokehouse and Grill of Lady Lake will be at Lake-Sumter State College with a delicious southern barbecue dinner for attendees. Tickets are $12 in advance at any United Southern Bank, but tickets available at the door are $15. The money raised from ticket sales will benefit Leadership Lake’s endeavors in community development.
Mark your calendars for Aug. 18—doors open at 5 p.m. and the program ends at 8:30. Come enjoy a glass of wine or beer at this event, sponsored by the Leesburg Partnership, and get to know the individuals running for office in our cities, county, and state.
