Keep Lake Beautiful is inviting volunteers to participate in a community cleanup in Umatilla.
The cleanup will be conducted from 9am-noon Saturday, March 16, at two Umatilla locations: 58 Cassady St. and Southside Ball Park at 17107 Ball Park Road. The cleanup is sponsored by Waste Corporation of America, according to a news release.
Residents are encouraged to clean their homes and yards and dispose of any trash, passenger car tires, and any items that could hold water and become a breeding ground for mosquitoes. Lake County’s Household Hazardous Waste Mobile Unit will also be on site at 58 Cassady St. to accept household hazardous waste, paint, fuel, and more.
Keep Lake Beautiful will provide gloves, safety vests, trash bags, and water to volunteers, who must be 16 years or older or be accompanied by an adult. Participants should wear proper attire, sunscreen, and insect repellent.
Residents also are encouraged to use the county’s Litter Reporter at gis.lakecountyfl.gov/crowdsource to help pinpoint areas in need of a cleanup. The Litter Reporter is viewable on mobile devices and desktop computers and allows users to submit data about a particular area, as well as attach photos. Keep Lake Beautiful monitors submissions and proposes cleanup efforts and community events as needed.
Keep Lake Beautiful is an affiliate of Keep America Beautiful. Since its launch, the organization has hosted or partnered on more than two dozen projects, including community and waterway cleanups, roadside litter pickups, neighborhood and school beautification events, tree plantings, and household hazardous waste collection events, the release states.
