With an increase in bear activity in recent weeks, the city of Mount Dora and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission have scheduled a black bear educational program from 11am-noon Aug. 1 at W.T. Bland Public Library, 1995 N. Donnelly St.
Mount Dora officials want residents to be informed and educated about black bear activities, habits, and safety for homes and neighborhoods, a news release states. Officials believe the more informed residents are about Florida’s black bears, the more they can live in harmony with them. They encourage all residents to attend, and the workshop also is open to any citizens outside Mount Dora who want to learn about black bear activity.
Alyssa Simmons, the area bear biologist for FWC, will host the workshop. Informational handouts and literature will be available for everyone. After the presentation, there will be time for a question-and-answer session for attendees.
