Friday’s a good time to sample some craft beer at Leesburg festival

Think of it as a giant-size Friday happy hour.

The Leesburg Craft Beer, Wine & Food Festival is set for 6-10pm Friday, Nov. 17, at Venetian Gardens, 201 E. Dixie Ave., Leesburg. Visitors can stroll through the islands of Venetian Gardens and enjoy more than 25 varieties of craft beers, plus wines from around the world, food from the area’s best restaurants, and live music from T. Scott Walker.

Guides will be provided to explain the offerings at each station and to allow guests to keep track of their favorite beverages. The islands will be decorated with a dazzling array of holiday lights and plenty of seating will be available, the Leesburg Partnership website states.

New this year is the Firkin Experience. A firkin is a unit of measure and also the size of a particular kind of keg used for cask conditioning; one quarter of a barrel or 72 pints. The way the keg is tapped provides a naturally fermented and carbonated beer in a small batch.

Leesburg Partnership and Wayne Densch Distributing partnered with 3 Daughters Brewing, of St. Petersburg, to produce two one-of-a-kind firkin kegs. VIP ticket holders will be treated to a live firkin keg-tapping experience presented by craft beer experts. VIPs also will receive samplings of the firkin kegs, gelato to cleanse the palate, a festival T-shirt, and souvenir cups.

The food will range from entrees to desserts as top chefs prepare steak, roasts, chicken, soups, fruit, cakes, cookies, and more.

Tickets cost $30 in advance and $40 at the gate; VIP tickets are $75 in advance or $100 at the gate. Free parking is available. For tickets, go to or call 877.318.0069. Merchandise also is available on the website.
