Dr. James Young Reaches Milestone with Prostate Treatment

According to Prostate Evaluation Center and PR Newswire, Dr. James Young, a Lady Lake urologist, is the first in the United States to reach the milestone of treating 300 patients with Rezūm® System Minimally Invasive BPH Therapy. He founded Prostate Evaluation Center in 1982. According to leading online physician and hospital resource, Dr. Young ranks in the top 100th percentile of all urologists in the U.S., based on hundreds of patient surveys and reviews.

Practicing urology for 35 years, Dr. Young is dedicated to bringing new minimally invasive therapies to his patients. BPH or enlarged prostate gland is in the top 10 most common and costly diseases. It affects 12 million men every year 50+ years old. The numbers are staggering, with almost 800,000 men diagnosed every year. It leads to significant quality-of-life issues, including losing sleep, anxiety, challenges with sexual function, and limiting daily activities.

“After more than 30 years of treating BPH, in my opinion, the Rezūm System is the most dramatic advance in technology for treating men with enlarged prostates that I expect to see in my lifetime,” said Dr. Young. “After performing 300 treatments, it’s clear that Rezūm is an effective first-line therapy for men suffering from BPH, providing my patients with a minimally invasive alternative to surgery or taking daily BPH medications for the rest of their lives, both of which have side effects many of my patients would prefer to avoid or end.”

Rezūm, which was developed by NxThera, is an outpatient procedure. Dr. Young performs the procedures in his office. It uses natural thermal energy stored in steam to treat the extra prostate tissue causing symptoms like frequency, urgency, irregular flow, weak stream, straining and getting up at night to urinate.

The water vapor goes into the targeted tissue and when it contacts tissue, it becomes water and releases the stored thermal energy. This causes the obstructive prostate tissue cells to die, and during the following weeks, the body’s natural healing response removes the dead cells, shrinking the prostate. With that extra tissue removed, the urethra opens, reducing the symptoms of BPH and improving the patient’s quality of life.

Studies show that Rezum also allows men to retain sexual function, unlike other BPH treatments. To date, more than 10,000 men have received this treatment across the United States and Europe.

“It’s not often that you get a chance to thank your doctor for making your life more functional and pleasant,” said patient Dr. Joseph B. Dent, Jr., of Lady Lake. “Dr. Young said that by having the Rezūm procedure and following his recommendations my life would be much improved. He was right, and I thank him and his entire staff for their help and support.”

Highlights of the Rezūm therapy include:

  • Performed in-office and patients can return home immediately
  • Does not require general anesthesia
  • Relieves symptoms safely and effectively
  • Is an alternative to BPH medications, eliminating the need for long-term BPH medication use
  • Provides noticeable symptom improvement within two weeks
  • Preserves erectile and urinary functions
  • Allows patients to return to regular activities within a few days

“Our goal is to transform the lives of BPH patients across the country with the Rezūm System,” said Bob Paulson, president and CEO of NxThera. “With Dr. Young’s expertise and advanced training with Rezūm, patients suffering from BPH in the Lady Lake area now have a minimally invasive, lasting and cost-effective alternative for treatment so they can get back to enjoying a better quality of life.”
