On Saturday, Sept. 22, one young woman will receive the title “Miss Leesburg” for the 2018-2019 service year during a program at Leesburg High School at 7pm.
“The title of ‘Teen Miss Leesburg’ will also be awarded and will receive a $500 scholarship,” said Linda Watts, founder and director of the scholarship program for the past 32 years. “To enter this year, applicants can call me directly at 352-255-3508 by Monday evening.”
During the following year, both Miss Leesburg and Teen Miss Leesburg will be asked to represent their positions in volunteer activities in the community.
“Each contestant will be asked a few questions by our panel of judges in a private interview, then, later, will walk across the stage in a casual outfit, and return wearing a long gown,” she explained. “Nothing more is required in order to be considered for selection.”
There are several additional divisions for younger girls to participate for scholarship money in the following categories: Tiny, Little, and Junior Divisions earning $500 each.
“These contestants simply need to wear pretty dresses onstage, and answer a few simple questions,” said Linda. “Anyone wishing to apply, can call me directly at 352-255-3508 by Monday September 17.”
Rehearsals for Saturday’s ceremony are Tuesday and Wednesday at 6pm at Leesburg High School.
Last year’s winner for Miss Leesburg 2017-2018 is Eva Henderson, 17; her sister, Chloe Henderson, 15, is Teen Miss Leesburg 2017-2018. Both winners held the ribbon during the recent ribbon cutting at Leesburg Regional Medical Center to celebrate the opening of the expanded Emergency Department facility.
