Collecting memories

Our travel feature celebrates the 50th anniversary of the moon landing.

My husband collects sport memorabilia, which we all get to enjoy. Many of us began collecting items as children. Some of these collections are vast and take up lots of space. An example would be one of this month’s featured collectors, Mark Roberts, who not only has a warehouse and storage facilities but also has a store to help others keep adding to their collections.

Our collectors have varied interests and collections, and we know it’s always fun to have a hobby you love and a way for others to appreciate it, too. The memories that go along with those collections are always treasures, too.

If you’ve seen the TV show “Dirty Jobs,” you know why we couldn’t resist doing our own version in print. The people who take on these tough jobs are heroes in our opinion. We’re happy to feature local sanitation workers this month. You’ll find it’s a physically demanding job, but those who do it tend to enjoy it.

Natallia Berdnikava is an instructor at Jack Travers Waterski School in Groveland but is best known as a world champion waterskier and record holder. Get to know her a little better in our feature this month.

It’s the middle of a sweltering summer, but we’ve got some other great stories for you to enjoy while sitting on the lanai or in your favorite reading chair. We’re featuring an outstanding student who is going to Princeton; Joe Shipes shares about planning the first Leesburg Bikefest; and our travel feature celebrates the 50th anniversary of the moon landing. No doubt many of our readers remember this significant event.

Don’t forget to vote for Best of the Best, which will be featured in the Hot! issue in August. The cutoff date is July 14. You can vote online at lakeandsumterstyle.com.

Until next month,
