Clermont police investigating series of business burglaries

Burglars targeted four Clermont businesses in rapid succession in the early-morning hours Thursday, July 6, according to police. Cash registers containing unknown amounts of money were taken or emptied at three of the four locations.

Police believe 11 men and three vehicles were involved in the crimes, and determined that one of the vehicles was reported stolen out of Orange County, a news release states.

Around 3:20am, officers responded to a glass-break alarm at Pizzano’s Pizza, 1120 E. Highway 50, and found the front door shattered. A Samsung Galaxy tablet valued at $400 also was stolen, police reports show. About three minutes later, another alarm sounded at Wine Regions, 2423 U.S. Highway 27, where officers discovered another shattered front door. In addition to three cash registers, a variety of liquor was taken from the shop.

About two minutes later, officers responded to a burglary in progress at Moe’s Southwest Grill, 2383 U.S. Highway 27, where a delivery driver exiting the freezer in the restaurant saw two men near the cash register. They immediately fled after seeing the driver. The glass door had been shattered at this business as well, the release states.

The last alarm call came in just after 3:30am, when officers responded to Jersey Mike’s Subs, 2441 U.S. Highway 27. At this restaurant, the burglars were able to shatter the outside pane of the glass front door, but the interior pane was still intact, and they did not get inside.
