When she’s not running for office, Diane Travis is running in competitions.

The Clermont City Council member is heading to the 2019 USA Duathlon National Championship on April 13 in Greenville, South Carolina. The duathlon is a run, bike, run event of varying distances. Then she will compete at the ITU World Duathlon Championship April 27 in Pontevedra, Spain, a news release states.

Diane, a past gold and silver medalist in the national and world competitions for her age division, is coming off a second-place finish for women of all ages at the recent Lake Louisa Sprint Duathlon. The prior weekend, she took first place overall for women at the Great Clermont Triathlon/Duathlon competition at Olympic distances. These are especially tough competitions since Clermont is home to many of the world’s elite athletes. Diane has also been a Grand Masters Duathlon Athlete of the Year finalist.

Diane has served on the City Council since 2014 and was reelected in 2018. She is founder and president of Travis Realty Group in Clermont.

She also is one of the state’s leading advocates for bicycle safety. Each May, she helps lead the Ride of Silence, an annual, international bicycle ride to commemorate cyclists killed by motorists and to support those who have been injured while riding on public roads. She also was the keynote speaker at Bike Florida’s state conference.
