Children shop for the holidays with Clermont police officers

About 25 children will be able to celebrate Christmas in style through the Heroes and Helpers program.

The shopping spree pairs the children with heroes, in this case, Clermont police officers and first responders. The event is scheduled for 10am today at Target, 2660 E. Highway 50, Clermont. This will be the fourth year that the Clermont Police Department has participated in Heroes and Helpers, a news release states.

“What makes our particular event so special is that the children are selected by our very own officers as they serve the community,” Sgt. Josue Martinez says in the release. “Clermont police officers, along with city firefighters and paramedics, will help make this a memorable experience for the children.”

The program is a Target corporate event that each year helps children in need across the country shop with a first-responder for Christmas. They can purchase presents for themselves, their parents, and siblings.

Target and local community members have donated the funds to help make the shopping experience possible, the release states. After shopping, McDonald’s Restaurant in Clermont will provide lunch for the children.
