Bosses Serve Without Pay

Everyone has a boss. Most of them are usually compensated with top pay. However, there are some civic-minded citizens who serve without any compensation at all. They do it for the common good.

The legal governing body for Lake-Sumter State College has some of the most dedicated people serving on their District Board of Trustees.

That board is composed of nine dedicated citizens whom the governor appoints: Five citizens from Lake County, and four from Sumter County.

Governor Rick Scott recently appointed Jennifer Hooten, of Bushnell, to serve a new four-year term on the LSSC District Board of Trustees beginning this month.

Jennifer is a teacher for the Sumter County School District and received her bachelor’s degree from St. Leo University. She succeeds Kelly Rice.

Governor Scott also reappointed Emily Lee, of Eustis, for another four-year term. Emily is a retired integration specialist from Community Coalition Alliance. She received her bachelor’s degree from Southern University and her master’s degree from Mankato State University.

The LSSC District Board meets monthly and meeting details are available at

Both appointments are subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate.
