All Shook Up: Tribute contest is the ultimate Elvis experience

Elvis is in the building. In fact, a whole lot of Elvises are in the building.

The Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest kicks off with activities tonight and culminates with the championship round Saturday night at Mount Dora Community Building Theater, 520 N. Baker St.

The top Elvis Presley tribute artists in the world will compete. Only the top six will have the opportunity to compete for cash and the right to go to Graceland, Elvis’ Memphis home, to compete for the title of “Ultimate Elvis,” according to the event website.

A concert tonight features last year’s contest winner, Al Joslin & The Crew. Doors open at 6pm. The evening begins with a Meet & Greet with guests Suzanna Leigh, Elvis’ co-star in “Paradise, Hawaiian Style,” Will McDaniels, Elvis’ longtime friend, and Gary Buck, former member of the Stamps, the backup gospel vocalists for Elvis. Visitors will be able to sing their favorite Elvis songs during an open mic performance starting at 7pm.

Saturday’s lineup includes the Ultimate Contest preliminary round, with doors opening at 10am, and the Finals in the evening with doors opening at 6:30pm. There also will be an auction of Elvis items. After the contest, an Elvis “American Trilogy” Candlelight Ceremony will be held in remembrance of Elvis, followed by an after-party.

Tickets cost $45-$75 and include the Friday night concert and Saturday’s preliminary and final rounds. For tickets or more information, go to or call 352.383.2165.
