5k run in Clermont to benefit Haven and victims of domestic violence

The Clermont Police Department will host Lake County’s first Break the Silence, Stop the Violence 5K Run to benefit Haven of Lake & Sumter Counties. The family-friendly event is scheduled to begin at 6pm Saturday, Oct. 6, at Waterfront Park, 330 3rd St., Clermont.

Proceeds from entry fees will benefit Haven, a nonprofit organization that provides comprehensive services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. The race will help the organization build a new shelter for the pets of victims staying at Haven, a news release states.

“The Clermont Police Department encourages everyone to come out and show their support for such a worthy cause,” Chief Charles Broadway says in the release. “We are very enthusiastic about our partnership with the Haven, and we fully support their efforts in helping victims of these unfortunate crimes.”

The 5K run course is out and back on the South Lake Trail. Participants will receive a finisher medal, colorful T-shirt, and post-race food from Chick-fil-A, and awards will be given to the top three men and women finishers.
