2020 Florida Pro Best of the Beach Volleyball Tournament set this weekend in Tavares

Lake County welcomes the 2020 Florida Pro Best of the Beach Volleyball Tournament and participating athletes to Hickory Point Beach in Tavares Friday, Nov. 6 through Sunday, Nov. 8. The tournament is being presented by the Norelli Family Foundation and hosted by the Florida Region of USA Volleyball.

“We look forward to welcoming athletes, their families, visitors and residents to Lake County and Hickory Point Beach for the 2020 Florida Pro Best of the Beach Volleyball Tournament,”  Brandon Matulka, Executive Director of the Lake County Agency for Economic Prosperity, says in a news release. “We are appreciative of the opportunity to host this tournament, and we look forward to providing athletes from around the nation a safe and enjoyable environment as they compete for the title at this state-of-the-art athletics complex.”

Tournament spectators will see some big names competing for the Best of the Beach title, including Olympic gold medalist Phil Dalhausser who took gold at the Beijing Summer Olympics in 2008. Two other Team USA athletes who are also competing in the tournament include brothers Taylor Crabb and Trevor Crabb. For the full roster, visit www.floridavolleyball.org/athlete-list.html.

The tournament will be conducted under strict COVID safety and social distancing guidelines. Men’s and women’s pro divisions will be competing for their respective Best of the Beach titles all three days. Qualifier Pool Play for each gender will begin Friday, Nov. 6 at 9 a.m. The winners of each qualifying pool will advance to the Main Draw Pool Play on Saturday, Nov. 7, with winners from Saturday advancing to bracket play on Sunday, Nov. 8.

The weekend will also serve as the domestic debut of Beach ParaVolley for USA Volleyball. Each team is made up of three players and teams work within the Paralympic classification system that promotes inclusivity of the sport and otherwise largely follows the standard FIVB Beach Volleyball rules. Saturday, Nov. 7 will feature training for Beach ParaVolley with exhibition matches taking place on Sunday, Nov. 8.

Lake County visitors and residents are welcome to attend and support the athletes as they compete for the Best of the Beach. VIP tickets are available at www.floridavolleyball.org.
