Villages Recreation creating community education program

A new community education program soon will be available in The Villages. The Enrichment Academy will offer fee-based core curriculum classes beginning in October.

The Enrichment Academy’s core courses are defined as academically and culturally enhancing, and teach students the foundational knowledge and skills they need for growth, according to the academy website. Examples of courses include writing, foreign language, history, art, dance, science, and basic technology.

The Recreation Department of The Villages is overseeing the new academy, which will fill the void left by the Lifelong Learning Center, which was discontinued last year. The department intends to expand the academy in phases. Classes will be conducted at Villages recreation centers and are open to Villages residents and anyone 30 years or older.

Registration dates will be announced this summer, and registration will occur at the regional recreation centers, online, or by mail.

The Enrichment Academy also welcomes prospective instructors to submit applications for consideration to teach the Phase I curriculum.
